IIPH Field Research Officer Recruitment 2025 – Educational Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Sociology, Statistics, Nursing, Community Health, or any other relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • At least one year of experience in field-based data collection related to public health, social science research, monitoring & evaluation, or community-based studies.
  • Proven experience in conducting structured interviews, key informant interviews (KIIs), and facility-level observations.
  • Previous exposure to working with health facilities, district health offices, community health workers, or government health programmes will be considered an added advantage.
  • Experience in using digital data collection platforms such as KoBoToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, REDCap, and Google Forms.
  • Ability to maintain accurate field notes, logs, and documentation in accordance with prescribed research protocols.
  • Working knowledge of health indicators and health information systems including HMIS, RCH, NCD Portal, or similar platforms will be an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in data entry, basic data cleaning, and systematic organization of datasets.
  • Proficiency in local languages such as Khasi or Bhoi, relevant to the assigned project location, is highly desirable.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Sociology, Statistics, Nursing, Community Health, or any other relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Prior experience working with government health programmes, Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs), or community-based structures such as VHCs, VHSNCs, ASHAs, and ANMs.
  • Basic exposure to data cleaning and preliminary data analysis using tools like MS Excel, SPSS, Stata, or similar software.
  • Experience of working in rural or remote areas of Meghalaya or other Northeastern states will be considered an added advantage.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field-based data collection, including structured interviews, direct observations, and documentation on how district health officials use data for decision-making.
  • Work closely with Medical Officers, District Health Officers, Data Entry Operators, and programme managers to collect real-time insights from the field.
  • Maintain daily and weekly field logs and ensure accurate documentation in line with research protocols.
  • Support the mapping of existing data systems at the district and block levels.
  • Undertake extensive field travel within the assigned districts as per project requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and coordination skills while interacting with government officials and health personnel.
  • Strictly adhere to research methodologies and ethical guidelines during all field activities.
  • Contribute to the generation of formative evidence required for designing training modules and strengthening data-use practices.
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving data-driven decision-making within district-level health systems.

Skills & Competencies Required:

  • Proven capability to carry out quantitative and qualitative field research independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills for engaging with community members, health workers, and government officials.
  • Working knowledge of mobile-based survey tools and digital data collection platforms such as ODK or KoboCollect.
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in local languages (Khasi, Garo, or Jaintia) will be considered a significant advantage.
  • Comfortable working closely with community stakeholders and public health personnel at various administrative levels.

  • Practical problem-solving skills to address field-level challenges such as device issues, participant availability, or travel constraints.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within assigned districts as per project requirements.

Key Deliverables:

  • Conduct structured interviews with Medical Officers, District Health Officers, Data Entry Operators, and program managers.
  • Carry out field observations in health facilities and district/block offices to assess real-time data-use practices.
  • Maintain daily and weekly field logs documenting decision-making processes, challenges, and data tools used.
  • Support case study development by documenting practical examples of data use at the district level.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Coordinator, Data Analyst, and IIPH Shillong technical team.
  • Map existing government health data portals, reporting systems, and indicator dashboards.
  • Document data flow processes, including data collection, aggregation, reporting, and use in planning.
  • Assist in preparing the Mapping of Existing Data Systems Report and Gap Analysis.
  • Travel regularly to assigned districts and other project locations as required.
  • Liaise with district health officials to schedule interviews, facility visits, and review meetings.
  • Attend district-level health review meetings and document discussions on data interpretation and decisions.
  • Build strong rapport with government stakeholders to ensure smooth field operations.
  • Provide field-based insights to support training modules and district-level capacity-building efforts.
  • Assist in pre-testing and validating training materials for field relevance.
  • Support baseline and endline surveys under the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) framework.
  • Submit progress reports, interview summaries, and observation notes to the project team.
  • Participate in internal review meetings to share findings and emerging themes.
  • Support logistical arrangements for stakeholder consultations, district meetings, and training events.
